PostSubject: Forums Back   Fri Oct 16, 2009 5:33 pm

Hey guys,

Due to a DDOS attack on our new forums we have reverted to the old ones. To avoid any issues with out of date stuff I am archiving all posts/threads for the moment and so all the sections will soon be empty. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update - Most obsolete stuff now archived away out of sight. We are not 100% sure what we are going to do, whether it be stick here or move to another host. We will let you know in due course. In the meantime please spread the word that our old forums are back Smile

Tal

Great to have some type of forums back. It's better than nothing!

I bet the attack came from the forummotion folks Twisted Evil

Do you still want to move out? Are you looking for paid or free hosting?

Tal, you should announce on server that old forum is in function again (if you didnt't do that already)

-edit...if you can, it would be nice to keep the old forums in work Razz

The new forums were not crashed. They were being constantly DDOSed, so Miker decided to bring the down, as the attacks were constant.

PostSubject: Help with ddos Attacks   Tue Oct 20, 2009 6:25 am

Hello everyone,

because Tal is talking here about this Ddos attack, wich i'm helping with to fix it, i'm going to say some things which can be a solution.
Please post if something is wrong...

There is a method involving the police by using a google ad or something which you get paid for on our attacked forum.
Then you can go to them and say:"Hi, someone is trying to hack my site and I earn money with it."
This is ILLEGAL so they should help you but the only problem is is that this forum is related to a private server of WoW.
Normally they cannot hold you because you have one but if Blizzard hears from this they can sue you.

Another method is, and Moegie said you maybe tested that one, is by using some ip-block programs.
They check hom many packets had been sent from one ip. You can change settings like: "If that IP sends to much data my site will block his Ip."
The only thing is that you have to download it illegally or pay 5000 dollars a month. But there are some freeware programs on the internet.

Thank you for reading. More will come soon.
Greetings,

Nikon

I'm sure it's already been done, but get onto your ISP, they have more resources, and a business interest since it will be affecting their bandwidth and possibly other clients of theirs as well. Better than trying to do it on your own.
